As we pulled the old siding, we replaced roughly 30 percent of it where the existing material had failed, then worked off a clean, sound substrate so the new James Hardie went on flat and tight. We wrapped the entire house in pre-finished James Hardie lap siding and carried the same material onto a new porch ceiling for a finished, cohesive look overhead. Standard-width window trims, 6-inch James Hardie door trims, and 11-inch fascia boards frame the exterior and give the rooflines a substantial, well-defined edge. To keep the property consistent, we re-sided the detached shed to match the house exactly. We also replaced the large overhang beams over the two decks - roughly 4x8 members - restoring solid support and clean sightlines under the eaves.
