James Hardie Siding Installation in Petaluma, CA 94954
The homeowners on this Petaluma project wanted to retire their aging wood siding for an exterior that would hold up to weather and stay low-maintenance for years. Our crew stripped the house down to the framing, hauled away the old wood, and rebuilt the wall assembly from the sheathing out. What stands now is a clean, fully wrapped exterior clad in James Hardie fiber cement, finished in Monterey Taupe with crisp Arctic White trim.
With the old siding off, we inspected every exterior wall member for dry rot and replaced any damaged sheathing with exterior-grade OSB. We then re-sheathed all walls in new 7/16-inch OSB to add shear strength before building the moisture protection system: James Hardie weather-barrier wrap, rubberized Forti-Flash flashing at every window and door, and metal z-flashing above each opening. New foundation vents and gable vents improve airflow, including an octagon-shaped vent the homeowners requested for the front gable.
The cladding is pre-finished CedarMill textured HardiePlank lap siding, 8 1/4 wide with a 7-inch exposure, set off by 1x4 fiber-cement trim around all openings and corners. We added permanent aluminum anti-moisture sheets at the siding seams, caulked and sealed to manufacturer spec, and painted the external conduits and electrical panel to match. To finish, we prepped and painted the existing overhangs and fascia, then reinstalled the downspouts and house numbers.
