James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding in Evening Blue gives this Redwood City home a clean, weather-ready exterior that holds its finish far longer than the worn cladding it replaced. We tore off all of the existing siding and trim down to the framing, hauled it away, and rebuilt the walls with the fiber-cement system Hardie engineers for our specific climate zone. The Statement Collection siding now reads sharp against Arctic White 5/4-by-4 trim around every window, door, and corner, with the same crisp white wrapping the single garage door in 5/4-by-6 boards.

Because the original vinyl hid the wall assembly, our crew inspected each structural member as the old material came off and repaired the dry rot we found before any new siding went up. We installed HardieWrap weather barrier across the walls, set Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at the window and door openings, and ran metal z-flashing to keep moisture out of the new system for the long haul. The peaked gables above the garage and over the roofline were finished with a board-and-batten accent to add texture to the front elevation, and the eaves, fascia, foundation, and garage door were painted to tie the whole exterior together.

On the openings, we replaced ten windows with Milgard Tuscany Series new-construction vinyl units, fitted with Low-E 366 glass and argon gas for better insulation through Redwood City's warm summers and cool winters. Downspouts and house numbers were reset once the siding was complete.
