James Hardie Siding & Marvin Windows in Oakland, CA 94618
The owners of this Oakland home wanted a fresh, durable exterior that worked with the wooded setting around the property, along with a full window package to match. Our crew stripped the house down to the framing, leaving only the cinder block walls that wrap from the entry around to the front, and rebuilt the exterior with James Hardie fiber cement and a new Marvin window system. The finished home wears Khaki Brown lap siding accented by Timber Bark trim, a combination that settles in naturally against the surrounding greenery.
With the old wood, vinyl, and FRC siding removed, we inspected the exposed wall framing and repaired any dry rot we found, replacing damaged sheathing with exterior-grade OSB. New 7/16-inch OSB sheathing went up across the walls for shear strength and passed the city's nailing inspection before any cladding went back on. From there we wrapped the home in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed the window and door openings with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and ran metal z-flashing for permanent moisture protection. James Hardie Statement Collection lap siding in Khaki Brown followed, trimmed out with 5/4-by-4 ColorPlus trim in Timber Bark at every opening and corner, including the small upper window wall on the roof facing the backyard.
Cedar Mill soffit replaced the existing wood soffit boards, and we painted the eaves, fascias, gutters, downspouts, and foundation to tie the whole exterior together. On the window side, our team installed sixteen windows, one large assembly unit, and two patio doors in Marvin Ultimate wood-clad construction - custom-sized with LowE366 argon glass, a bronze exterior frame, and a bare pine interior. Downspouts and house numbers were reinstalled once the new siding was in place.
