Cedarmill lap siding in Aged Pewter gives this Petaluma home a clean, grounded look that holds up to the local climate. We stripped the old siding down to the studs, rebuilt the moisture protection from scratch, and clad the walls in James Hardie's Statement Collection ColorPlus fiber cement. The deep gray field set against crisp Arctic White trim reads sharp without feeling fussy, and the engineered ColorPlus finish is baked on for a color that stays true.

With the old siding off, our crew inspected the wall framing for dry rot and re-sheathed the exterior in 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength, passing the city's nailing inspection before any new cladding went on. We wrapped the walls in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed every window and door opening with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and added metal z-flashing for permanent moisture defense. The 8 1/4-inch Cedarmill lap then went up over the new system, finished with 5/4-by-4 HardieTrim boards in Arctic White Rustic Grain around all openings and corners. Alongside the siding, we replaced 33 windows with Alside Mezzo retrofit vinyl units carrying Low-E 366 glass and argon fill for year-round energy efficiency.

To tie the whole exterior together, we painted the subsidiary surfaces - foundation, eaves, porch ceiling, fascias, gutters, downspouts, and the front entry door - and reinstalled the downspouts and house numbers that came off during the siding work.
