Jame Hardie Siding & Marvin Windows in Sonoma, CA 95476
The change at this Sonoma home is hard to miss from the street: where worn wood lap siding and aging trim once covered the walls, there's now a crisp run of Arctic White James Hardie fiber cement with clean board-and-batten across the front gable. Our crew stripped the home down to the studs where the old siding came off, wrapped it fresh, and brought the exterior back to a bright, uniform finish. New Marvin windows throughout opened the rooms up to more daylight and tightened the whole look together.
We tore off the existing wood lap siding and the smooth lap on the sunroom porch, then re-sheathed with half-inch exterior plywood wherever the tear-off exposed bare framing - important for shear strength and a solid nailing surface. Before any siding went back up, we installed HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing for long-term moisture protection. The front face with the peak gable got James Hardie batten board from the Statement Collection, while the remaining wood lap and T1-11 areas were finished in Arctic White ColorPlus lap siding, with T1-11 sections laid over. Openings and corners were wrapped in 5/4-by-4 Arctic White trim to match.
To round out the exterior, we ran Hardie Cedar Mill soffit from the back porch around to the garage and across the front garage gable, then painted the eaves, fascia, garage door, and foundation. During tear-off we inspected the wall framing for dry rot and handled repairs where decay was found. Twenty-two windows were replaced with Marvin units sized and styled for each opening, and the garage-to-exterior door was swapped for a new one.
