James Hardie Siding & Simonton Windows in Hercules, CA 94547
The back and side walls of this Hercules home now wear clean white lap siding that holds its color and sheds water the way modern siding should. With the old material stripped away and the openings re-trimmed, the exterior reads crisp and current, and 18 new windows plus two patio doors let in more light while sealing out the temperature swings the old units couldn't handle. Our crew worked carefully around a backyard the family's dog uses daily, keeping nails and debris cleared throughout.
We tore off the existing siding down to the framing, hauled it away, and re-sheathed the walls in 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength, passing the city's nailing inspection before moving on. Behind the new siding went HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing to manage moisture. The finish is James Hardie ColorPlus Lap Siding from the Statement Collection in Arctic White, trimmed at openings and corners with 5/4-by-4 Hardie ColorPlus trim. The windows are Simonton vinyl in a new-construction installation with Low-E 366 glass, and the master bedroom units were upgraded with STC sound-control glass.
To wrap up, we reinstalled the downspouts and house numbers, painted all new trim along with the fascias, eaves, foundation, and gutters, and powerwashed the front of the home with a mildew-killing cleaner where the original siding stays in place.
