James Hardie Siding in Los Gatos, CA 95033
Set in the hills above Los Gatos, this house had stucco running across its lower walls and aging siding on the upper main story. We replaced the worn material with James Hardie fiber cement and gave the upper portion of the home a crisp, durable face in Cobble Stone. The result reads as a clean, modern wood-grain look that holds up to the wind and sun this home sees year-round.
The siding is James Hardie's Cedarmill 8.25 lap from the Statement Collection in the ColorPlus shade Cobble Stone, set off by Arctic White Rustic Grain HardieTrim. Our crew ran 5/4-by-4 trim around the windows, doors, and corners and 5/4-by-6 around the double garage doors, then finished two soffit areas the homeowner pointed out with Cedar Mill ColorPlus soffit. Before any board went up, we built a full moisture system underneath: HardieWrap weather barrier across the walls, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing along the horizontal transitions.
Because old walls can hide surprises, we opened things up and inspected the framing for dry rot, replacing damaged sheathing with exterior-grade OSB to keep the wall plane solid before siding went up. We also installed VULCAN WUI vents approved by the California State Fire Marshal - an important detail in a wildland-interface area like this one - and power washed and painted the eaves to match the new ColorPlus finish.

HardiPlank Siding GVD was not the lowest bidder for my project, but I chose them based on the details of the five page quote and meeting with Vlad the owner. They made no effort to take shortcuts or use cheap materials. The team of Ukrainian craftsmen worked together as an efficient and professional team. I can honestly say that I am more than pleased with the work done and the finished product! It looks like I have a new home and the Fireproof rating of HardiPlank will keep my insurance company happy. (I live in a fire zone in the Santa Cruz Mountains)
