James Hardie Siding Installation in El Cerrito, CA 94530
The owners of this El Cerrito home wanted siding that would hold its color, stand up to the climate, and bring the exterior into the current decade. We stripped the old siding back to the studs across the walls being resided and rebuilt the wall system from the inside out, finishing with James Hardie fiber cement lap siding in Monterey Taupe. The result is a clean, consistent exterior with crisp Arctic White trim framing every window, door, and corner.
After tearing off the existing wood, vinyl, and FRC siding and hauling away the debris, our crew added R-13 Owens Corning fiberglass insulation between the studs and re-sheathed the walls with 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength, which passed the city's nailing inspection. We installed HardieWrap weather barrier over the sheathing, ran Forti-Flash rubberized flashing around all window and door openings, and set metal z-flashing for permanent moisture protection. James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding from the Statement Collection went on in Monterey Taupe, trimmed in smooth 5/4-by-4 ColorPlus boards in Arctic White at the openings and corners.
Where dry rot was found in the wall framing, we replaced the damaged members and sheathing before the new system went up. To tie everything together, we painted the existing Hardie siding sections to match the new color and refreshed the foundation, eaves, fascia, gutters, and downspouts. Downspouts and house numbers removed during the work were reinstalled once the siding was complete.
