James Hardie's Statement Collection lap siding in Gray Slate was the right fit for this Meadow Vista home, giving the full house and detached garage a durable fiber-cement exterior engineered for the area's climate. We started by tearing off the old siding down to the framing, removing dry-rotted boards and trim around the doors, windows, and corners where we found them. With the walls opened up, our crew rebuilt the moisture and structural envelope before any new siding went on.

New 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB sheathing went up where it was needed for shear-wall strength and passed the city's nailing inspection. Over that we installed HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing throughout to keep water out for the long haul. The siding was finished with Arctic White 5/4x4 trim in a Rustic Grain texture wrapping the openings and corners, and we painted the garage soffit eaves to match the Gray Slate field.

On the window side, our team replaced 20 windows and one sliding door on the house and seven on the garage with Milgard Tuscany retrofit vinyl units, all carrying the Low-E 366 glass package for year-round energy savings. This was more than a swap-out - we reframed and resized several openings to fit how the family uses the home: enclosing a door and matching two right-side windows to the left, widening the slider opening to 93 inches, modifying four loft-room openings, enlarging a bedroom window to a single-hung and closing off the old picture window, and reworking the kitchen into an XO opening. Four windows pulled from the house were relocated and reinstalled in the garage.
