The old cedar shingle siding on this Orinda home had worn unevenly over the years, leaving the exterior dated and patchy. We stripped it down to the sheathing and rebuilt the walls in a layered James Hardie system - smooth Artisan V-groove across the main facets, board-and-batten in the gables, and a natural stone apron grounding the front. The result reads as a crisp, modern farmhouse with real texture and depth where there used to be flat, tired shingles.

For the field, our crew installed James Hardie Artisan siding on every wall except the gables and the stone-skirted front sections, where the V-groove profile gives the home a tailored, shadow-lined look. The gable peaks switched to James Hardie batten board from the Statement Prime Collection, with a belly band marking the clean transition from the V-groove to the vertical battens. Eldorado Stone wraps the front as a rock apron, and 5/4-by-6 ColorPlus trim frames the double garage doors while 5/4-by-4 ColorPlus trim wraps the windows and remaining openings. The exterior was prepped, caulked, sealed, and painted to spec, including the eaves, fascia, and foundation around the home's perimeter.

Behind the new cladding, our team installed HardieWrap weather barrier across the walls, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door, and metal z-flashing for long-term moisture protection. We furred out the uneven right-side facet with one-by-four strips to bring the wall back to plane, inspected the framing, and repaired dry rot found inside the walls. Two garage windows were replaced with new-construction Anlin Catalina vinyl units carrying the Infinit-e triple-layer Low-E glass package with argon for year-round efficiency.
