Hardie Siding Replacement & Mezzo Windows in Oakland, CA 94606
The exterior of this 1922 Oakland home now reads clean and crisp, with Pearl Gray fiber cement running in even courses from the foundation to the gable peaks. Where the old wood siding had weathered and pulled away over the decades, the walls are now wrapped tight and trimmed in bright Arctic White around every corner and opening. Day to day, that means a house that sheds water properly, holds heat better, and looks sharp from the street without the upkeep the original cladding demanded.
We stripped the existing wood siding and trims down to the studs, then opened up the chance to deal with what was underneath. Our crew inspected and repaired dry rot with exterior-grade OSB, added in-wall insulation between the studs, and re-sheathed the entire house in 7/16-inch OSB for shear-wall strength. From there we installed James Hardie weather-barrier wrap, Forti-Flash and metal z-flashing at every opening, and the new James Hardie CedarMill lap siding in an 8 1/4 board with a 7-inch exposure. Aluminum anti-moisture seam sheets back the joints, 1x4 HardieTrim frames the openings and corners, and new foundation and gable vents keep air moving behind the wall.
We also swapped in one Alside Mezzo replacement window built to match the home's original special shape, finished in white vinyl with Low-E 366 argon-filled glass. To tie everything together, we prepped and painted the existing overhangs and fascia, sealed and caulked the seams, and painted the exterior conduits to blend with the siding.
