Open-Concept Kitchen Remodel with Custom Island in Rescue, CA 95672

GVD Renovations & Remodeling transformed Ben and Sandy Simon's dated, tile-heavy kitchen in Rescue, CA into a bright, open, and highly functional living space. Working from a custom in-house design plan, our team reworked the layout, raised the ceiling by removing the old recessed light box and soffits, and opened the room so it flows into the adjoining living areas. The project was a complete kitchen remodel. We removed the existing tile flooring, cabinetry, tile countertops, and backsplash throughout the kitchen, laundry, pantry, nook, and half bath, then rebuilt with natural maple Diamond semi-custom Shaker cabinetry in a Coastline finish. A new island anchors the room, with plumbing and electrical relocated through the concrete slab, added seating, and a dedicated prep zone. Calacatta-style quartz countertops with soft gold and gray veining pair with a sage green glass subway tile backsplash and warm brass hardware and pendant lighting. We installed all-new recessed LED lighting, under-cabinet task lighting, and dimmer controls, plus a custom wood vent hood, an undermount sink with a spring-neck faucet, a coffee and beverage station with glass-front cabinets, and a built-in wine refrigerator. New stainless steel appliances — a double wall oven, cooktop, dishwasher, and French-door refrigerator — complete the space. Designed by Danielle Curry and permitted through El Dorado County, the Simon kitchen remodel was completed in early 2026. From demolition through final finishes, GVD handled the design, permitting, cabinetry, countertops, tile, electrical, plumbing, and appliance installation as a single, fully managed project.
