James Hardie Siding Replacement in San Francisco, CA 94116
This San Francisco home now reads clean and crisp, with straight horizontal lines of lap siding and bright white trim framing every window and corner. Where the old wood, vinyl, and fiber-cement siding had aged and given way, the walls are now wrapped in a durable James Hardie system finished in Light Mist. Day to day, the home looks sharper from the street and stands up far better to the fog and damp this neighborhood sees.
Our crew tore off the existing siding and skip sheathing down to the framing, then inspected the wall cavities for hidden damage. With this being a pre-1978 home, we followed lead-safe RRP practices throughout the demolition. We addressed the dry rot we found, re-sheathed the walls in 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength, and passed the city's nailing inspection before any new siding went up. From there we layered in the full moisture-protection package: HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing to keep water moving away from the walls.
To finish, we installed James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding from the Statement Collection in Light Mist, trimmed out with 5/4 by 4 HardieTrim in Arctic White around the openings and corners. Downspouts and house numbers were reinstalled once the siding was complete, and the site was cleaned and cleared of all debris.
