James Hardie Siding Replacement in San Rafael, CA 94901
The homeowners here wanted a cleaner, more durable exterior that would stand up to the coastal-influenced weather around San Rafael, and they were drawn to the look of fiber cement over the patchwork of stucco and aging siding they had. We rebuilt the walls of the home from the sheathing out and refreshed the remaining surfaces, finishing everything in James Hardie's Statement Collection. The result is a crisp Iron Gray exterior with bright Arctic White trim that reads sharp from the street.
Our crew tore off the existing siding, added R-13 insulation, and re-sheathed with 1/2-inch plywood for a solid, even substrate before installing 8 1/4-inch Cedarmill lap siding from the Statement Collection. The siding was carefully layered to keep the look consistent on every elevation. Wherever new siding met openings and corners, we installed Hardie 5/4x4 ColorPlus trim. Behind the siding, we wrapped the walls in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed window and door openings with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and ran metal Z-flashing to keep water moving away from the structure.
During tear-off we inspected the wall framing for dry rot and addressed the sections we found before the new sheathing went on. Once the siding was up, we reinstalled the downspouts and house numbers and cleared the debris from the site.
