James Hardie Siding Installation in Sacramento, CA 95819
The homeowners on this East Sacramento street wanted a cleaner, more modern exterior and an outdoor space they could actually use year-round. We re-clad the house in James Hardie fiber cement, leaving the existing brick in place, and added a freestanding patio cover out back. The result is a warm khaki brown facade with crisp trim lines and a shaded patio that finally makes the yard livable through the summer.
Our crew tore off the old wood, vinyl, and FRC siding down to the studs, then re-sheathed the walls with new 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength and passed the city's nailing inspection before any new siding went up. We wrapped the home in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed every window and door opening with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and ran metal z-flashing for long-term moisture protection. Where the old vinyl came off, we added Owens Corning R-13 fiberglass insulation between the studs. The siding itself is James Hardie ColorPlus lap from the Statement Collection in Khaki Brown, finished with 5/4x4 trim around the openings and corners and 5/4x6 trim framing the single garage door, all in a Cedar Mill texture.
While the walls were open, we inspected the framing for dry rot and repaired any damaged sheathing with new exterior-grade OSB. We also installed a Hardie porch ceiling, removed and reset the downspouts and house numbers, and replaced the old patio cover with a new 13-by-27-foot solid Alumawood structure with the homeowners' ceiling fan reinstalled underneath.
