The homeowners wanted a cleaner, more durable exterior with a color scheme that gave the house some real presence on the street, and that's exactly what the finished home delivers. We stripped the old shingle siding down to the studs and rebuilt the wall system from the framing out, finishing with James Hardie Statement Collection lap siding in Evening Blue. Set against crisp Arctic White trim, the new exterior reads sharp and modern across this Concord property.
Because the existing substrate was skip sheathing with no real shear wall behind it, we sheathed the walls in new half-inch plywood and passed the city's shear-wall nailing inspection before any siding went up. Once the framing was inspected, our crew added R-13 Owens Corning fiberglass insulation between the studs, then wrapped the walls in HardieWrap weather barrier with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door and metal z-flashing at the seams. The Hardie ColorPlus lap siding went on over that system, trimmed out in 5/4-by-4 ColorPlus trim around all openings and corners. We also painted the eaves, fascia, garage door, and foundation to tie the whole exterior together.
During tear-off our team inspected the wall structure for dry rot and handled the repairs needed to give the new siding a sound, dry foundation to attach to - work you'd never know was done, but that keeps the finished walls solid for the long haul.
