Set in the Oakland hills near Montclair, this home now wears James Hardie lap siding in Iron Gray, a clean, contemporary gray that pairs with crisp Artisan trim around every window, door, and corner. We kept the existing siding in place and rebuilt the entire trim package, then layered in new stonework and a cedar-clad entry to give the front of the house a fresh, modern profile. The result is a tighter, weather-ready exterior that reads as a full facelift without losing the home's footprint.
Our crew started by stripping the old trims from all exterior walls, then opened up the wall assembly to inspect the framing. Where we found dry rot, we replaced damaged 2x4 framing members and re-sheathed with exterior-grade OSB for solid backing. From there we wrapped the walls in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed the window and door openings with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and ran metal z-flashing for permanent moisture protection. The new James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding from the Statement Collection went on in Iron Gray, finished with 5/4-by-4 Artisan trim at the openings and corners and Cedar Mill soffit overhead.
To set off the entrance, we installed Eldorado Stone along the side entry wall and finished the entryway walls and ceiling in 1-by-4 clear cedar tongue-and-groove. The garage window was swapped for a new XOX unit, the downspouts were removed and reinstalled, and we painted the remaining stucco, foundation, and trim components so the whole exterior reads as one finished package.
