James Hardie Siding & Milgard C650 Ultra New Construction Windows in Mill Valley, CA 94941
James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding in Pearl Gray gave this Mill Valley home a fiber-cement exterior built to stand up to coastal Marin moisture and sun. The back facets were the trouble spot: the original T1-11 had warped and delaminated, so we tore it off, exposed the framing, and rebuilt from the sheathing out. With new siding wrapping the whole house and crisp Arctic White trim framing every opening, the exterior now reads clean and modern.
We removed roughly 900 square feet of failed T1-11 across the rear walls and installed new 1/2-inch exterior plywood sheathing for shear strength, which passed the city's nailing inspection. During tear-off our crew inspected the framing for dry rot and repaired the damaged sections we uncovered. Before any siding went up, we covered the walls in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed the window and door openings with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing, and set metal z-flashing for permanent moisture protection. The Statement Collection lap siding went on whole-house, with Hardie 5/4-by-6 trim at the garage doors and 5/4-by-4 trim around the windows, doors, and corners. We finished by painting the eaves, fascia, and foundation, then reinstalled the downspouts and house numbers.
To pair with the new envelope, we installed seven Milgard C650 Ultra new construction windows, fitted into the openings as the siding system went on for a tight, properly flashed result.
