We pulled the old siding, then wrapped the house in a new weather-resistive barrier with flashing at the openings before any new board went up. That layered approach keeps moisture out and gives the new siding a clean, well-protected base to sit on.

For the field, we installed James Hardie HardiePlank lap siding in a 7-inch exposure, which gives the walls a balanced, traditional shadow line. We finished the corners and openings with 5/4 trim in a smooth profile, tying the details together and framing the windows cleanly. New windows went in as part of the same project, so the glazing and the cladding work together rather than fighting old, mismatched openings.
