ADA Compliant Bathroom Remodel for Seniors in Roseville, CA 95661
This bathroom was remodeled for an elderly couple adjusting to new mobility needs after the husband lost nerve function in his back and began using a wheelchair. The goal was to create a space that’s easier to move through, safer to use every day, and upgraded with durable materials that support long-term accessibility.
Key Features
✔️ Layout Improvements for Smooth Navigation
We removed a wall and extended the bathroom into what used to be a closet in the bedroom, giving the space a lot more breathing room. That extra square footage makes a huge difference for wheelchair movement, especially when turning or navigating around fixtures. It also allowed us to lay things out in a way that feels open, safe, and easier to use without feeling cramped or boxed in. The result is a bathroom that’s far more comfortable for daily routines and much better suited to long-term accessibility needs.
✔️ Accessible Shower Controls and Plumbing Adjustments
The shower controls were relocated inside the wall, placing them in a more reachable and practical position for seated use. This makes daily routines safer and reduces strain during bathing.
✔️ New Shower Hardware and Ventilation Upgrades
The bathroom received new shower materials including the shower head, controls, rough valve, and sink faucet. A new exhaust fan was also added to improve airflow and keep the space comfortable.
✔️ Updated Doors for Better Accessibility
We installed a new 36-inch wide pre-hung bathroom door to give the homeowner a wider, easier entry point for wheelchair access. The extra width helps reduce tight turns and makes the space feel a lot more open. We also added bi-fold closet doors where needed, keeping those areas easy to reach without blocking pathways or creating obstacles.
✔️ Safer, Brighter Lighting
Recessed LED lighting was added, including wiring modifications and full drywall repair. The brighter lighting creates a safer environment by improving visibility throughout the bathroom.
✔️ Durable, Clean Materials
A custom-fabricated vanity top featuring a waterfall edge gives the bathroom a modern, clean finish while standing up to daily use. Homeowner-provided LVP flooring was installed in the nearby closet area to tie the spaces together with a durable, low-maintenance surface.
